All over the world, people are beginning to plan and prepare for Christmas. But that is a worrying thought for some. If you struggle to earn a living, then the thought of having to find extra, or special food for celebrating Christmas with your family is daunting.

In Burkina Faso Christmas day is a special time and just like us families like to celebrate and share favourite dishes, which in Colette's family is spaghetti!

She used to work in a dusty gold mine , often with her baby strapped to her back. Despite her efforts Colette could go for days without finding any gold to sell which meant her family went hungry , and her baby became malnourished.

However, with support from Christian Aid and their local partner, Colette was able to join a market garden project and was given a plot of land and tools to enable her to grow and sell vegetables. Colette says "The garden changed my life. I sell vegetables, and also have them to cook good meals for my family. My children are no longer malnourished, and I feel safe in my garden, it is peaceful there."

This coming Christmas day will see Colette preparing her special meal before the family go to church. It will be a meal of vegetables and spaghetti to be shared with friends and neighbours after the service. What better use could there be for the money we collect for Christian Aid than to help those struggling, like Colette, to feed and provide for their family.

We are told in Isaiah 58:10 "Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon."
