(Stable set up at right hand side of chancel)

Narrator 1 It was a quiet night and not a sound could be heard
Stable Animals Moo, Baaa, Eyore, Quack Quack
Narrator 2 We said it was a quiet night
(Animals hide their heads)
(Joseph asleep on the chancel)
Narrator 1 Joseph who was engaged to Mary. He had discovered she was pregnant and was going to call off their engagement. This troubled Joseph because he was a good man and he loved Mary
Angel Joseph, I am an Angel of God and Mary is going to have a baby by the Holy Spirit and you'll call him Jesus, which means Saviour
(Mary, head in hands, on the chancel)
Angel Mary, don't be afraid. I bring you great news. God has chosen you to have his son and you will call him Jesus
Narrator 1 That night, Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem to be enrolled in a census. He took Mary with him
Narrator 2 Let's sing 'Little Donkey' - we will sing the first verse and chorus then please join in
Mary and Joseph and the donkey go up one aisle and come back down the other, arriving at the front of the chancel
Innkeeper (Innkeeper on the chancel counting money) I'm rich, I'm rich
(Knock, knock, knock)
Innkeeper Go away, I'm full up and there's no room at the Inn
(Knock, knock, knock)
Innkeeper Are you deaf?
Mary & Joseph Please Sir, we need a room
Narrator 2 He's not very nice, is he?
Innkeeper I heard that. I have no room but you could have the stable
Mary & Joseph Thank you (High five)
(Mary and Joseph sit down next to the manger)
(Wise Men onto the chancel)
Wise Men (sing to the tune of 'Happy Birthday')
We're wise men but we're lost, (clap, clap)
We're wise men but we're lost, (clap, clap)
We're wise men but we're lost (clap, clap)
So what are we to do (clap, clap)
Wise Men (sing to the tune of 'Happy Birthday')

Narrator 1 That's right, the Wise Men - who, like most men, don't like stopping and asking for directions, had to follow the star - so off they popped. That's right - follow the star. What are they like?
Narrator 2 (pointing to Herod) Slight problem, chaps, you have to get past him
(Wise Men stand to the side of Herod)
Herod (poem, no song) I'm Herod and I'm the King, In charge of everything. So why have you come from afar? And why do you follow a star?
Stable animals They didn't buy a sat nav
Guard He's the King, He's the King, and soooooo very, very good. He's the King, He's the King, and soooooo very, very good.
Narrator 1 Getting past Herod shouln't be a problem as he isn't very bright
Herod I heard that. Guards - off with their heads
(Guard marches to pulpit)
(Both Narrators hide)
Narrator 2 Where are the rest of the Guards?
Guard I'm on my own due to cut-backs following a strategic defence review
Narrator 1 Herod said to the Wise men
Herod Who are you?
All Wise Men (high)We are three Kings. (low) We are three kings
Herod (pulls out sword) WHAT, I am the King and I kill other Kings. Guards!
Guard Not again!
Wise Man 1 Actually we are three Wise Men
Herod Really, what are you doing here then
Wise Man 2 We are following that star
Herod What? Are you mad? Don't you have a sat nav?
Wise Man 3 Don't you start!
All except Wise Men (sing to the tune of 'Happy Birthday')
Buy a sat nav today - mooo mooo,
Buy a sat nav today - baa baa,
Buy a sat nav today - Quack quack,
Or follow that star - Eeee awww
All Wise Men we will follow that star as it will lead us to the son of God who is born tonight
Herod Good, please bring him to me so that I can say 'Hello'
All Wise Men Follow that star
Narrator 1 Let us sing 'We three Kings'.
Narrator 2 Let us pray
Sheep 4 In all the excitement we should think of others and what they have done to protect us.
Wise Man 1 Just as Mary, Joseph and the Wise Men did to protect Jesus. We give thanks to God for all those who look after us.
Angel Our Mums, Dads, Grannies and Papas to name a few, and to God through his son Jesus Christ. Amen
(Sheep in front of chancel, next to Shepherds)
Narrator 1 There were Shepherds tending their sheep
Herod Excuse me, am I finished?
Narrator 2 Yes
Narrator 1 So, Shepherds tending their sheep
All Shepherds (sing to the tune of 'Baa Baa black sheep')
We are shepherds, We have lots of sheep.
Big ones, small ones, That we keep. Baaa
All Shepherds (sing to the tune of 'Baa Baa black sheep')

Sheep 1-5 (same tune)
We are sheep and we make lots of wool,
One bag, two bags, three bags full

Angel (sneaking up behind the shepherds) Boo!
Angel Don't be afraid. I have great news. The son of God is born tonight in Bethlehem. Go and see him.
Shepherd 1 Oh yes, I want some of that. Right, let's go
Shepherd 2 How do we get there?
All except shepherds (sing to the tune of 'Happy Birthday')

Or follow that star - Eeee awww
Narrator 1 So the shepherds set off and arrived in Bethlehem which was very busy with all the people so they had to fight their way through the crowds
Narrator 2 At last they arrived at the stable
Narrator 1 Let us sing ' Away in a Manger'. We will sing the first verse then please join in
All Wise Men (Walk to front of chancel at end of hymn)
All Wise Men (Shouting) We've made it! (high) We've made it (low)
Wise Man 1 We have travelled from afar to worship you and bring Gold
Wise Man 2 Frankincense
Wise Man 3 And Myrrh
Narrator 1 So over 2000 years ago the son of God was born to save us all. Let us pray
Shepherd 1 We have relived the birth of Jesus which took place over 2000 years ago. In the next few days we will celebrate his birth with our family and friends.
Herod We will all have a great time playing with our new presents, with the presents representing the Wise Mens' gifts to Jesus.
Shepherd 2 We are lucky that we can enjoy this time in peace; many others around the world do not.
Sheep 1 We have so much that we take for granted and others have so little.
Wise Man 2 So during this time, make us stop and think of Jesus and not just ourselves, and remember that it was Jesus who put the Christ in Christmas. Amen.
